Help for Heroes
Hello and Welcome from Simon Buckden
By Challenging his body to the extreme and demonstrating that all it takes to succeed is exceptional mental strength and determination, Simon Buckden will run 100 Marathons in 100 consecutive weeks. What is more remarkable is that he has been running for over 20 years and until he started this challenge he had never ran a Marathon!
Although many will focus on completing the marathons, it is also a test of physical and mental strength to prepare and recover from a Marathon every week until January 2013.
The Marathons will be either in official events such as the London Marathon, on Treadmills in Fitness First Gyms and on measured courses within Parks in the UK.
Please see the Facebook Page for up to date details:
The personal cost to Simon to administer this challenge is around £12,000.
Simon is a Military Veteran who served in the British Army for 12 years and was Medically Discharged in 2001 with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder relating to his Service in War.
He strives to raise awareness about PTSD and to show that even though you have a serious condition, that you can still carry out amazing feats and try and overcome your illness.
Sponsorship and Support - How to get involved
Simon is currently self funding this challenge from some money that he received when he left the Army and will be completing the challenge full time.
It has been estimated that it will cost him around£12000 to fund the challenge until January 2012 and this is for:
- Branding/PR/Online Media
- Making a donation
- Sponsoring Simon
- Donating items needed for the challenge
- Helping Team 100

About Help for Heroes
Help for Heroes offers comprehensive support to those who have suffered life-changing injuries and illnesses whilst serving our country. This is provided through grants to individuals, other Service charities, capital build projects and our four Recovery Centres across the UK, in Catterick, Colchester, Tidworth and Plymouth. These will offer support for life. The money raised by the hugely generous public has been used to support our wounded, but there is still so much more to do. Soldiers, sailors and airmen who are injured today will still need our support tomorrow and in the days that follow, for the rest of their lives. They are still battling and we won't let them battle alone.
