David Coleman, High Sheriff of Derbyshire

Hello and Welcome from David Coleman, High Sheriff of Derbyshire

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent you will boost your donation.Thank you for your support. I have the great honour to be High Sheriff of Derbyshire for 2014/15, and during my year in Office, I want to direct my efforts to help those voluntary groups who give their time and commitment to make our society a better place for all. Without the hundreds of wonderful people who get involved in voluntary work our community would be a much poorer place. Often, just a small amount of money can make a massive difference to voluntary groups, so fundraising is vital if they are to continue their work. I want to help in that process, so, starting on August 1st 2014, I am walking around the entire county boundary of Derbyshire, a distance of around 220 miles, to raise funds for two charities: PEAK DISTRICT MOUNTAIN RESCUE ORGANISATION: PDMRO is 50 years old this year and I am very proud to be it's President. In 1964, after several fatalities on the moors and crags of the High Peak, concerned hill walkers came together to form an organised rescue service, and eventually 7 Mountain Rescue Teams were formed, covering the whole of the Peak District National Park and beyond. PDMRO was formed as a coordinating body, ensuring common policies and practices, organising training, and coordinating large scale incidents. Since that time, MR teams have located and rescued hundreds of stranded, lost and injured people, and assisted police and ambulance services in all weathers and at all times of day. They are a fantastic, free resource to everyone who uses the wild and inaccessible places in our beautiful county, safe in the knowledge that if they get into difficulties, help is always at hand. Funds raised will help provide new equipment and training so that this fantastic service can continue and improve. THE HIGH SHERIFFS FUND: The High Sheriffs Fund, formerly Derbyshire Crimebeat, provides grants to organisations and projects which engage young people in meaningful activity and divert them from crime and anti-social behaviour. Administered by Foundation Derbyshire, the fund is overseen by the High Sheriff, assisted by former and future High Sheriffs, and awards grants to a wide range of worthwhile projects aimed at young people. We want all young people in Derbyshire to have the opportunity to develop into good citizens, and as the statutory youth services diminish due to budgetary constraints, it is more important than ever that the voluntary sector picks up the challenge. Please help us engage lots more young people in activities which develop them and help them avoid getting into trouble. As a Trustee of Derbyshire Community Foundation, I am pleased that the Foundation has agreed to act as banker for any funds I raise, which will then be distributed to the two charities in equal share at the conclusion of the fundraising effort. Bmycharity is a commission-free service, so everything you donate will go directly to the two charities! About Derbyshire Community Foundation

Derbyshire Community Foundation is an independent charity, building an endowment fund to provide vital grant funding to voluntary and community groups across Derbyshire. We support the most vulnerable in our society and help enrich the lives of people living in our communities by funding a wide range of groups, including those involved in supporting carers, survivors of domestic abuse, children, young people and isolated elderly residents. Our grants also provide the people of Derbyshire with access to music, sport, advice, childcare, transport, counseling and a lot more.

Making a donation to Derbyshire Community Foundation is an exciting way of investing in your local Derbyshire communities. We bring together people from all walks of life who want to help the community and your donation can be used to support areas and interests close to your heart and all donations, of whatever size, work to improve the quality of life in Derbyshire today and in the future.
