Ian Lawless-Manchester to Newcastle

Hello and Welcome from Ian Lawless-Manchester to Newcastle

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent the charity will receive an extra 28% at no cost to you.

Thank you for your support.

I will be cycling from Manchester to Leeds on Saturday 12 June  and from Leeds to Newcastle on Sunday 13 June. Your support for this event is very much apreciated and all donations will go to my selected charity.

This is a challenge that I am taking seriously and am now putting in extensive training leading up to the event to enable me to complete the ride in a reasonable time.

I think by the time I get to the starting line I will need a new set of tyres as the ones on my bike are now wearing very thin. I've been told that if I get racing tyres the rolling resistence on the road will be reduced and it will be easier to peddle but I think an electric motor would be a better option, ( I'm not sure if this is allowed )

Once again thanks for your support and I will try to put together a news letter on the event and send this out to all my sponsors after the event and go through all of the highlights both to the build up and the event itself.

UPDATE TRAINING FOR  WEEK 20 ADDED

No training was completed Sunday or Monday Training Tuesday to Thursday

On Friday We went away for the weekend with the caravan and bike to Clumber park in Notinghamshire. This is when I sudenly realise the task I had set Myself. The journey down took 2 hours mostly on the motorway, the reading on the mileometer was 106 miles the total distance of the event is 136 miles.

On saturday I got up at 7:00 and took the dog for a walk (a little Jack Russel) then got the bike out of the car (The wife Cath lets me take the bike with me THANKS) 7:30 start cycling around Clumber park I completed 4 circuits around the outskirts of clumber park a total distance of 40 miles. Starting to feel better now as I managed to complete this by 10:00 this is the same distance as the first day Manchester to Leeds although this was flat and Manchester to Leeds is anything but flat.

Shower and breakfast now and a walk down to the visitor centre with cath and the dog. decided to walk around the back of the lake and back to the caravan around 5 miles.

On sunday pack up and a drive back home so no cycling on sunday

Total distance during the week 108 miles

I will try to keep you updated on my training I am hoping to do around 60 to 80 miles on saturday next week to come somewhere near the second day mileage on the event

Below is miles ridden this year week 13 I was on holiday weeks 17 and 18 I had a chest infection so was unable to ride.

Tour de LDC - 'When you wish upon a Star'

About When You Wish Upon A Star

When You Wish Upon a Star is a charity dedicated to granting the Wishes of children aged 2-16 years, from across the UK, all of whom are suffering from life threatening illnesses. Over the past 18 years we have granted over 14,000 Wishes of the most incredibly brave and courageous children. All children have Wishes but for these children their Wish provides the opportunity to escape daily routines of hospital and doctors appointments as their special Wish becomes a reality. Wishes are often varied and far reaching, to meet a favourite pop star or celebrity, to swim with dolphins in Florida and meet their favourite characters or even to be a princess or soldier for the day. Every December we also take hundreds of children on a magical trip of a lifetime to meet the real Father Christmas in Lapland. Whatever the Wish wherever possible When You Wish Upon a Star will aim to make that Wish come true, creating an unforgettable experience and precious memories for the whole family which will last a lifetime.
