Help for Heroes
H4H 4X4 European Rally 2012
The award winning HELP for HEROES 4x4 EUROPEAN RALLY has raised over £300,000 for the charity since its launch on Armed Forces Day in 2010. The 2012 event follows the path and tells the story of the Allied Invasion through Europe and includes places fabled by the Band of Brothers book and television series.
This year Ian Fraser and Ray Pipe will be entering the rally in Ian’s M201 Hotchkiss Jeep.
Our official team name is "La Jeep"
The event will start on Saturday 16th June 2012 at Littlecote House Hotel in Wiltshire. After using byways on Salisbury Plain we travel to Portsmouth to embark on the ferry for France. We visit The Somme, Ypres, and Arnhem; where on 17 September 1944, in the largest airborne operation ever seen, thousands of paratroopers descended from the sky by parachute or glider up to 150 km behind enemy lines. The route moves south to Bastogne in Belgium where in the coldest winter for decades, the Germans made a final push – 'The Battle of the Bulge'. Towards Germany, the rally goes via the Alsace region of France and its Maginot Line fortifications, then onto Dachau and its horrors of war. We end our journey at Hitler's "impenetrable" Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden on Thursday 28th June 2012 having covered over 2000miles.
The Hotchkiss Jeeps are almost identical to the archetypal WWII Willys Jeep and were manufactured under licence at the Hotchkiss-Brandt factory in Stains on the Northern outskirts of Paris between 1957 and 1966. Ian’s Jeep rolled off the production line in 1962 so this year it has been on the road for 50 years, just like Ray! This will be tough going for us in such a basic vehicle and the other teams think we are mad!
We are funding all the entry fees, ferries, accommodation and running costs ourselves so every penny we raise will go directly to HELP for HEROES.

About Help for Heroes
Help for Heroes offers comprehensive support to those who have suffered life-changing injuries and illnesses whilst serving our country. This is provided through grants to individuals, other Service charities, capital build projects and our four Recovery Centres across the UK, in Catterick, Colchester, Tidworth and Plymouth. These will offer support for life. The money raised by the hugely generous public has been used to support our wounded, but there is still so much more to do. Soldiers, sailors and airmen who are injured today will still need our support tomorrow and in the days that follow, for the rest of their lives. They are still battling and we won't let them battle alone.
