Hello and Welcome from Nick Cassidy

Betfair LifeCycle Challenge - Down Under

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Clearly the mid life crisis has arrived early!! I've been saying for some time that I wanted to undertake a long distance bike ride, without ever really seriously pursuing the idea. My bluff has finally been called and I've now commited to take part in a huge cycle ride across seven countries in Europe in late August.

My company has a large operation in Malta and are the leading sponsor for a Malta based charity called Lifecycle which offers support to patients with serious kidney disease. Because of the presence of UK riders this year, they are now looking to build links with renal units in the UK.

Lifecycle are attempting to raise money by organising a sponsored cycle ride from Venice to Manchester - along what is known as 'The Devil's Highway'. This involves a 2100km (over 1300 miles) cycle over 12 days in late August. The route passes through seven countries (Italy, Switzerland. Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, France and the UK) including a gruelling trip across the St Gotthard Pass in Switzerland. http://www.cycling-challenge.com/passo-san-gottardo-st-gotthard-pass-both-sides/

If I was under any illusion that it would be easy, all such thoughts have been well and truly banished. The training schedule is very intense and it seems like every spare minute between now and August will be taken up with training (including throughout my summer holiday!!). That said, I'm really looking forward to the challenge and hoping to raise a lot for a great charity.

For those of you who have always wanted to get me to get on my bike, here's your chance. As an added incentive, for each €50 donated, you will be entered into a draw to win two free tickets to watch Manchester United next season.

Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent the charity will receive an extra 28% at no cost to you. Anything you can donate would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your support.

About Lifecycle Malta

The LifeCycle Organisation was founded in Malta in 1999 to create awareness and generate support for patients suffering from end stage renal disease. As from 2013 the Organisation has now been registered as LifeCycle (Malta) Foundation.

The foundation organizes the LifeCycle Challenge, which is one of the most gruelling endurance events in Europe, pitting a dedicated team of Maltese cyclists against the elements in a long distance ride through different countries all over the world. This event covers an average of 2,000km in a mere 10 to 12 days and is held annually in the summer months.By putting such an extreme event together, LifeCycle intends to attract the Maltese public’s attention to the plight of patients of the Renal Unit in Malta, and to encourage generous donations from the public. These donations go towards the cost of treatment, equipment, research and improving the quality of life of patients on dialysis. Having collected over a million Euros since 1999, LifeCycle (Malta) Foundation hopes to collect more funds every year with the help of the generous donations given to the Foundation by companies and individuals.
