UNHCR
Hello and Welcome from Shujaat Ali
Thank you for visiting my fund-raising page for the Pakistani floods victims. All funds go directly to UNHCR to help in their relief efforts for the Pakistani flood victims.
MILLIONS OF FLOOD VICTIMS NEED ASSISTANCE TODAY
Monsoon rains have created the most devastating flooding in Pakistan's history. The disaster has been termed by the UN as
"more devastating than the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, 2005 Kashmir Earthquake and the recent 2010 Haiti earthquake
combined."
- Flooding has swept through an area the size of England
- Nearly 1/5 of the country is under water
- 1 in 10 Pakistanis have been affected (20 Million people!)
- 3.5 Million children are at severe risk of water-borne diseases
- 850,000 houses destroyed along with bridges, roads, schools and hospitals.
- In a country that was already failing to feed its people, $1 billion dollars of crops in the most fertile land is under water
- All regional main aid warehouses have suffered major flood damage
This flooding of biblical proportions isn't slowing down; in fact monsoon season is only half over. The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, who visited Pakistan a few days earlier, made the following observation:
"I will never forget the destruction and suffering I have witnessed today. In the past I have seen scenes of natural disaster around the world, but nothing like this. The scale of this disaster is so large. So many people in so many places in so much need."
The UN launched an appeal to raise $459 million, sadly very little has been raised. This is where you come in. Please donate what you can, however you can. Please help UNHCR immediately provide flood victims with shelter and other emergency supplies.
£25 will provide 10 blankets for flood victims.£60 provides a survival kit containing a blanket, a mattress, a kitchen set, a cooking stove and soap
£125 provides an all-weather tent to shelter a displaced family.
£1= $1.59
Please be generous and help as much as you can. Even a contribution as little as $1 will go a long way in making a big difference.
So far, UNHCR has provided more than 41,000 plastic tarpaulins, 14,500 family tents, 70,000 blankets, 40,000 sleeping mats, 14,800 kichen sets, 26,000 jerry cans18,600 plastic buckets 17,700 mosquito nets and 13.3 tons of soap.

About UNHCR
The UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, was established in 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide protection and assistance to refugees. Today, UNHCR is one of the world's principal humanitarian agencies, its staff of 6,540 personnel helping more than 30 million people in 116 countries. The agency has provided assistance to more than 50 million people worldwide, earning Nobel Peace Prizes in both 1954 and 1981. UNHCR is almost entirely funded by voluntary contributions, and more than 90 percent of your contribution goes directly to the field. The money you donate to UNHCR will help to ensure that the world's most vulnerable people are provided with safety, access to shelter, clean water, medical care and education. Your donations will ensure that UNHCR’s emergency response teams, who are on constant standby for worldwide deployment, are able to provide vital aid and relief in crisis areas as quickly as possible.
