Hello and Welcome!
Azafady is a UK registered charity (No. 1079121) and Malagasy NGO working in partnership with disadvantaged communities to alleviate extreme poverty and protect the unique and biologically rich but greatly endangered forests in south east Madagascar. Madagascar is one of the world’s top conservation priorities with some 80% of its animal and plant species found nowhere else on earth. However, while it may be environmentally rich, deforestation from slash-and-burn agriculture and other pressures threatens the local wildlife and with 77% of the population living on under $1.25 per day, access to education, health care and even safe drinking water is incredibly limited. Infant mortality is a horrendous 1 in 10 nationally - and as high as 4 in 10 in the extremely impoverished south east region of Anosy where Azafady is based. www.madagascar.co.uk
With the help of international teams of volunteers and employing around 70 local Malagasy staff, Azafady has been responding to the directly expressed needs of some of the most marginalised communities and working to protect some of the most threatened forests in the world for over 15 years. Do something amazing with your time by volunteering with us in Madagascar. Your support will help us to continue carrying out vital work with these communities and you will have an unforgettable time, gaining hands-on experience on the frontline of an international grassroots sustainable development organisation. With four volunteer options to choose from, our projects run from 2-10 weeks. Get involved in school and well building, health and sanitation projects, sustainable livelihood initiatives, vital conservation research and teaching English to eager classes of students and unemployed adults..
