The Friends of Moorfields is a registered charity, raising funds for the benefit of the patients of Moorfields Eye Hospital. Founded in 1963, the primary aim of The Friends of Moorfields is to provide supplementary services and equipment for the comfort and well-being of patients and their visitors. We contribute towards buying much-needed technical items for professional use in the hospital's clinics, outreach centres, operating theatres and research laboratories. In recent years, we raised over £600,000 towards the building and equipping of The Richard Desmond Children’s Eye Centre. We provided £350,000 towards the costs of a major refurbishment of the clinic areas in the hospital. We also cover the employment costs of a Play Worker in the Children’s Centre.

We also promote and manage a wide range of volunteer work. Our volunteers work in the Friends’ shop, operate the Information Desks in the main hospital and in the Richard Desmond Children’s Eye Centre and carry out many other activities to support the work of the hospital and to help us raise funds. Friends’ Members come from all walks of life - patients, their relatives and friends, former patients, members of staff and other well-wishers.We are always looking for more people to help with collection days at stations and stores in London.
