Hello and Welcome!
SKIP (Students for Kids International Projects) is a UK based, healthcare student-run charity. Our mission is to support vulnerable and impoverished children and communities worldwide and promote the personal and professional development of healthcare students. We strive to educate and empower healthcare students to initiate and maintain sustainable community integrated overseas projects aimed at improving the health, welfare and education of children in their community. We believe in the universal rights of the child and the role of healthcare professionals of the future in advocating and implementing change. There are fourteen regional branches of SKIP, based at Bart’s and the London School of Medicine, University of Birmingham, University of Bristol, Cardiff University, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, Hull York Medical School (HYMS), Newcastle University, University of Oxford, University of Southampton, Swansea University, St. George’s Medical School, University College London (UCL) and University of Warwick. The regional branches work in a number of countries throughout Africa, Asia and Europe: SKIP Barts: India SKIP Birmingham: Zambia SKIP Bristol: South Africa SKIP Cardiff: Belarus SKIP Edinburgh: Moldova SKIP Glasgow: Malawi SKIP HYMS: Tanzania SKIP Newcastle: Sri Lanka SKIP Oxford: Thailand SKIP Southampton: Madagascar SKIP Swansea: Belarus SKIP St George’s: New branch, currently carrying out needs assessment, project to be confirmed! SKIP Warwick: Sri Lanka SKIP UCL: Ghana They work in a number of areas including basic education, health education, capacity building, care programs, assisting building work and training. The ultimate aim of each SKIP project is not to be needed any more, to make each intervention they are involved with sustainable. As such, all of the projects are constantly being evaluated and assessed to address their suitability and sustainability and are always changing and evolving to suit the relevant needs of the communities we work with.
