Hello and Welcome!
An estimated 3,000,000 are living with a spinal cord injury across the world and every year an estimated 130,000 more people are affected. This means that every 4 minutes someone across the globe sustains a spinal cord injury. Wings for Life is dedicated to finding a cure for spinal cord injury and funds world class scientific research and clinical trials around the globe aimed at accelerating progress towards this. Scientists agree, injured neurons can regenerate. Spinal cord injury will be curable one day. Through our vital research, Wings for Life provide hope to the thousands of people affected by spinal cord injury around the globe. Since 2004, Wings for Life has funded 82 international research projects at well respected institutes such as the University of Cambridge and the Harvard Medical School.
Wings for Life was founded in 2004 by Red Bull CEO Dietrich Mateschitz and the two-time motocross world champion Heinz Kinigadner after Heinz’s son Hannes suffered a spinal cord injury during a motocross race for charity. Since then the organisation has expanded and is now registered in five countries - Austria, Germany, Spain, the USA and the UK. As spinal cord injury is not considered ‘widespread’, medical and scientific research into spinal cord injury is significantly under-funded. Every year Wings for Life receives more applications for research grants than they are able to fund – your donations are vital. When you support Wings for Life, 100 percent of the money you donate will go to directly to spinal cord injury research as the charity’s founders cover all administrative costs.
