Dan O'Mahoney

Hello and Welcome from Dan O'Mahoney

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

As you may know, my first serious 'career' was as a Royal Marine. I'm going back to my roots this year to raise money for the Royal Marines Association and I'd be really grateful for your support.

I am taking part in a 26 mile speedmarch over remembrance weekend this November. (Speedmarching is a combination of running and marching as a squad in combats and boots and is every bit as hard as it sounds!).

Our aim is to raise money for serving and former Royal Marines and their families who need support.

I'm taking part on behalf of Commando999 and will be one of the very few (only?) runners who is not a serving member of the emergency services. However, after enjoying a number of years of working with the Police Service and soon to be married to a paramedic, I'm hoping I can blend in! If not, I hope to raise massive amounts of cash to persuade them that it was a good idea to let me join in.

Now, I'm not as fit as I was when I last wore a green beret in anger, some eight years ago, and this is going to be seriously hard work, so please give generously as there are lads and their families out there who really, really need our help.

Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent the charity will receive an extra 28% at no cost to you.

Thank you for your support.

About Commando 999

Commando 999 through the RMA (Charity No 206003) is proud to raise funds for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund that looks after the morale of the Corps Family from cradle to grave. The fund is now reduced to £500,000 due to the much higher than average spending in support of all Royal Marines (and their families) whatever the need. The RM Charitable Trust Fund provides and maintains the efficiency and esprit de corps of the Royal Marines. The Fund provides morale boosting activities in order to increase the likelihood of survival in theatre for the Royal Marines and to sustain a quality family life. Inevitably much is used in support of the many bereaved families and over 150 physically wounded Royal Marines. We also know that the future holds many hundreds who will also suffer mentally.

Examples of how the Fund operates are: Support to Veterans reunions, their activities and financial help in times of hardship. Constant support for the wounded and their families as they struggle to regain health and fitness. Contributions to activities for the wounded, like the Khumbu Challenge where they walked and climbed in the Himalayas, reaching Everest base camp. Activities for the families while their loved ones are in danger. Contributions to Veterans who continue to support the Corps in many ways. Please help the Royal Marines Family to re-endow this vital fund for their morale and welfare. The RMCTF is a Registered Charity, No 248733.
