Friends Of EORTC
Hello and Welcome from Eddie Lawson
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
We have now completed this challenge, and rode in a relay format non-stop from John O' Groats to Lands End in 79 hours 40 minutes.
I covered a distance of nearly 500km in that time.
You can find out more information about the event here: http://www.bmycharity.com/jogle2012
We are raising money for a fantastic charity, in particular for a project that is intended to hugely increase the efficacy of cancer treatments in the future.
We would appreciate any donation you could make.
Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent you will boost your donation.
If you are technologically minded, you can follow our progress on Facebook and Twitter:
Thank you very much for your generous support.

About Friends Of EORTC
Please help us to combat the scourge of cancer. Research to develop better treatments is one of the most important causes of today. One family in three across the world is stricken by this terrible disease. Friends of EORTC’s mission is to raise funds to support clinical research in cancer. EORTC stands for the European Organisation for the Research and Treatment of Cancer, an amazing, unique voluntary organisation of which the UK is very much a part. Founded in 1962 EORTC was ahead of its time and remains the foremost Pan-European clinical research grouping. Within its network of 300 hospitals in 30 countries, more than 2500 clinicians have been involved since 1962 in EORTC’s research projects and in improving the quality of life of patients.
Much progress in treating cancer has been made in the past fifty years, and EORTC has made a great contribution to this success. For instance in 1970 the long term survival rate for children with leukaemia was zero and now is 80%. For Hodgkin’s disease the survival rate was 10% in 1970 and is 85% today. That gives us all hope, but there is still a great deal to do and many challenges ahead. Our job, at Friends of EORTC, is to support these great efforts. EORTC is determined to continue contributing to progress, as cancer treatment enters the new era of personalised medicine based on the mapping of the human genome. We have entered into a Partnership with the Alliance Boots Group to create the first Pan- European Tissue Biobank, initially focusing on Colorectal Cancer. The Biobank will collect tumour samples and DNA data from patients across Europe. Information from this material will help oncologists to tell patients which treatments will work best for the tumours they have, given their particular genetic markers. Treatment will be more likely to succeed.
