Hello and Welcome from Eifion Jones
Pedal to Paris 2010
Thursday
Arrived in Greenwich Wednesday night, had a lovley mexican meal with a few glasses of wine and purely to relax the pre-race nerves felt it rude not to have a few whiskies with Steve Morgan P & A Fencing
Anyway I am now on my way!!!
We left Greenwich at 8.15 this morning and rode straight into London, all traffic was stopped while we cycled through which was an amazing experience, the organisation and back up so far has been second to none. We then stopped at 10am for a quick coffee and
have just stopped again in Sellindge Village hall for lunch with 60 miles under my belt. There is as much food as you can eat, I was hoping I might have lost a few pounds but now looks unlikely!!
Anyway now heading for the port but have been told we have a hill from hell to climb so I think the next 20 miles might be tough, and already a bit saddle sore, the team shorts are a bit lacking in padding!!!
Friday
We are now in Calais and the welcome and support we have had is tremendous, this morning we all attended a short service at the Cenotaph whilst we remembered the brave soldiers who have fought for us in the many wars, it was certainly very moving and emotional
I had my first puncture at lunch time, but WOW, as I pulled over the support vehicle pulled up beside me took off my front wheel, replaced it and off I went!!! At the next drinks stop there was my wheel waiting for me.
The next puncture was not far from the end of the ride and as it was my back wheel was slightly different, again the support vehicle pulled up to me but this time I was taken into the back of the van and whilst the van drove keeping up with the rest of the
riders my puncture was quickly repaired in the back of the van, it pulled over and off I rode, this has been the toughest ride to date, thought France was flat!!!!
At last we have reached Abbeville, and the beer is chilled!!!!!
Saturday
I am so stiff and looking for someone to apply some vaseline, have been looking for Miss Great Britain but no joy so far!!!!
Its getting tougher or should I say sorer!!!! and still not found Miss GB!!!! The streets are lined with well wishers in every town we go through, never in my life have I experienced anything like this.
We had three memoriarl services today in towns along the way and it just brings home what we are doing the ride for.
Only one puncture today and arrived in Beauvais ready for a well earned beer or two.
Sunday
Left Beauvais at 10am, we were the last group to leave today, but we all regrouped 10 miles from Paris and rode the final 10 miles as a group of 300 riders!!
I cant put into words the feeling I had riding up the Champs-Élysées and around the Arc de Triomphe this will be one of the most memorable things I will ever do in my life, what a fantastic experience I have had, just wish Debbie had been there to watch me
finish.
I HAVE DONE IT!!!!!! LET THE PARTY BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for all your support and kind messages you have sent me, it really did help

About RBL Poppybike (Pedal to Paris 2010)
2010 is the 15th outing of The Royal British Legions Pedal to Paris bike ride. The best Charity bike ride in the business.Almost 300 miles in 4 days is quite a challenge, but it'll be worth it for all the money raised for the invaluable work of the Royal British Legion. The Royal British Legion safeguards the welfare, interests and memory of those who are serving or who have served in the Armed Forces. It is one of the UK’s largest membership organisations and recognised as custodians of Remembrance. It also runs the annual Poppy Appeal which raised over £30 million in 2009. We help serving and ex-Service personnel and their families. Not just those who fought in the two World Wars, but also those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting today. Please support us, and give generously.
