Emily Read

Hello and Welcome from Emily Read

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

On 12th / 13th May 2012 I and other members of an Action for A-T team are challenging themselves to a 100k walk from London to Brighton. We will each walk the full distance and walk pretty much continuously with the aim of completing the challenge in under 30 hours. This will be a real test of endurance, determination and teamwork.

I am doing this for my daughter who has recently been diagnosed with the condition Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T).

Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent you will boost your donation.

Thank you for your support.

About Action for A-T Charitable Trust

Always wanted to climb a mountain, run a marathon, jump out of plane or something else…..? Make Action for A-T your cause!

Action for A-T has recently been established to help children with the condition Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T). A-T is a rare neurodegenerative and progressive disease which starts in early childhood causing severe disability and premature death. There is no cure for the disease and nothing that can halt its progression. Babies are born ‘normal’ and then slowly, from around the age of 5, start to lose their independence. A wheelchair is needed usually by the age of ten, if not before, and in many cases, a feeding tube by the age of 12. The immune systems of children who suffer from this brutal disease are usually compromised and so they very often do not live beyond their teens, usually dying of either cancer or a severe respiratory infection. A-T has been described as having the worst symptoms of four diseases: cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis and cancer. Studies show that children who are affected by this debilitating disease do not lose any of their mental capacity and so over time they effectively become trapped inside their deteriorating body. Funding for research into the condition is very limited so Action for A-T has been set up to raise funds that can be put into medical research with the long term aim of speeding up the process of trying to find a cure. Your support of this very worthwhile cause would be really appreciated and could make a real difference. Money raised will go into medical research with the aim of helping children who suffer from this cruel and unrelenting condition.
