the James Hopkins Trust
Hello and Welcome from Emma Walton - Skydiving
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
On Saturday 3rd of October,
I will be jumping out of an airplane in aid of The James Hopkins Trust.
This charity is close to the heart of my great friends Mel and Chris Hall and my godson Thomas.
Matthew their youngest child was diagnosed with Late Infantile Batten’s Disease in 2007. He went from being a perfectly healthy child to one who is now not able to walk, talk and is visually impaired due to this exceptionally rare disease. The respite centre
run by James Hopkins Trust gives Matthew, now 6, time in a safe and caring environment. This allows Mel, Chris and Thomas time to do things that Matthew would not be able to join them in.
This facility is vital and one that I can see firsthand makes a real difference to the lives of the Halls and other families in the same situation.
2009 seemed a good year to take on a Challenge and raise some money for a cause I know will help the lives of lots of families less fortunate than my own.
Any amount will help and is much appreciated.
Many thanks

About the James Hopkins Trust
James was born in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in September 1987 with a rare condition called myotubular myopathy, which resulted in his muscles being very weak. His parents Vance and Heather provided him with 24 hour care in the family home. Sadly on returning to hospital for a routine check-up, James caught a severe infection and died, aged 20 months. Vance and Heather founded the Trust in his memory in 1989 and resolved to provide the type of help they knew from personal experience other families in similar situations desperately needed.Since its founding, the Trust has helped several hundred children and their families with respite care with new referrals arrive virtually every week. The Trust provides its services to severely disabled life limited and life threatened children aged 5 and under, and their families. All services are free to those who meet our criteria. We are a local Gloucestershire charity which helps severely disabled, life limited and life threatened young children and their families with:• free respite care in the family home , or including Multi Sensory facilities at Kites Corner• financial assistance for visits to specialist hospitals,• and equipment specially designed for children with disabilitiesRespite care is by far our most important and most requested provision. For a growing number of families it is a lifeline of desperately needed support.
