Help for Heroes
Hello and Welcome from Help for Heroes Flying for Freedom
Thank you for visiting the Flying For Freedom fundraising page.
Flying for Freedom are mounting a daring expedition to be undertaken by eight wounded and injured servicemen designed to bring to the attention of Britain and British Business the urgent need to build self-sustaining activities that get our veterans back into work and daily life. The Expedition, in partnership with Help for Heroes will show their ability not their disability as they each fly by microlight to the South Pole.
Our South Pole attempt will be the culmination of three years training and testing. Deployment to the pole will be via HMS Protector as part of a British Antarctic Survey Supply mission in December 2014, for an attempt in Jan 2015.This is a very different challenge from all previous expeditions undertaken by the wounded! The team will be attempting an expedition that has never been attempted before by the able bodied and will set several World records: 1st to fly flexwing microlights in Antarctica 1st to fly flexwing microlights over MT Vinson, the worlds most remote mountain peak 1st to fly flexwing microlights to the South Pole In preparation for Antarctica, Help for Heroes Flying for Freedom has established a post-rehabilitation training activity that is self-sustaining. Wounded Pilots trained by us can go on to train for their Assistant Flying Instructors rating and then train future wounded, injured and sick to fly. Microlight flying is the most cost effective form of powered flight, with a license possible within just 25 hours of training. It is also very exciting and physical, providing a great focus post treatment. Your donation helps those learning to fly with us, but also provides great inspiration. Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent you will boost your donation. Flying is a great adventure, providing a freedom from disability: www.fly2pole.com
Thank you for your support.
About Help for Heroes
Help for Heroes offers comprehensive support to those who have suffered life-changing injuries and illnesses whilst serving our country. This is provided through grants to individuals, other Service charities, capital build projects and our four Recovery Centres across the UK, in Catterick, Colchester, Tidworth and Plymouth. These will offer support for life. The money raised by the hugely generous public has been used to support our wounded, but there is still so much more to do. Soldiers, sailors and airmen who are injured today will still need our support tomorrow and in the days that follow, for the rest of their lives. They are still battling and we won't let them battle alone.
