Hello and Welcome from Reverend John Smith
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I am walking 82 miles from Merstham to Canterbury along the Pilgrims Way between 5th and 11th September 2010. Nikki Wood and my daughter, Miriam are walking all the way with me and others are joining for days. Please sponsor us - it will make the blisters (ouch!),
practice walks, fun, time and energy all the more enjoyable with your generous support.
See me on You Tube!

About St Katharine’s Church Merstham
The beautiful 13th Century Church of St Katharine is the oldest remaining building in Merstham, Surrey, but eight centuries of wear and tear have taken its toll on the structure and it is now in urgent need of repair. Our aim is to raise £300,000 to help restore this amazing building, please help if you can. Our latest Architect's inspection has revealed various serious problems. The first and most important phase of the repairs involves rendering the tower to protect the soft Reigate Stone from water penetration and carrying out remedial work to repair damage which has already been identified in the structure of the tower. This, along with other urgent repairs will cost £208,000. The importance of the work is reflected in the fact that English Heritage has contributed £72,000 towards our total – thank you EH!! By June 2010 we have raised this figure to £100,000 – almost half way there!! We need your help to raise a further £108,000 to complete work on the tower and other works deemed eligible by English Heritage for their grant support. Any money raised above this will contribute to the next phase of work which has already been identified by our architect.
Please give some thought as to how you may be able to assist. We need your donations big or small. Every contribution will help to secure the future of our Church. If you are a UK tax payer the value of your gift can be increased if you Gift Aid. For every £1 you donate, the government will give us an additional 28p making your gift worth even more to us. Please give generously so that St Katharine’s can continue to be a beautiful place for special family and community occasions as well as the spiritual home for those who worship there. It is a gem of a building which deserves our care.
