Hello and Welcome from Mark Pittaccio

Tour de Force 2010

I really appreciate your support. As a rugby coach I know from first hand experience the benefits that the sports and arts projects we support give these kids and the massive benefits it provides communities here in the UK.

Previous tours have taught me that the saddle can be mentally both a very exhilarating and a very dark place to be. This years Tour de France route will certainly test the resolve.

During the entire Tour a Lifer (me!) will climb the equivalent of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowdon, Mount Blanc, Kilimanjaro and Everest. All in just 20 days! It’s the equivalent to riding from London to Cairo but with more ups!

I will burn 198,000 calories during the tour. Equivalent to 707 mars bars!

Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent you will boost your donation.

Thank you for your support.

About The William Wates Memorial Trust (Tour de Force 2010)

The William Wates Memorial Trust is a grants giving registered charity set up in 1998 with a mission to help disadvantaged young people fulfil their potential, and stay away from a life of crime, using the mediums of sports, arts and education. The Trust exists to celebrate the life of William Wates (1977- 1996) who was tragically killed when travelling in South America. His family set up the trust to shine some light into the lives of young people who have not had the advantages that Will enjoyed and we feel the aims of the trust reflect where his interests would have been if he was alive today. Since 1998 the Trust has donated just over £1M and helped over 8,000 disadvantaged young people fulfil their potential. Please have a look at our website www.wwmt.org to find out more about the amazing charities that we have supported.

On Saturday 19th June, 2010 the Tour de Force riders will leave Holland and cycle the 2010 route of The Tour de France, staying a fortnight ahead of the professionals, and finishing in Paris on Saturday 10th July. Each rider is aiming to raise funds for the William Wates Memorial Trust, in the form of sponsorship, to help us reach our target of £500,000. The team will ride the same 20 daily stages as the professionals with 2 rest days, over a 3 week period. A core of extremely fit riders will attempt the total 3,556 km, averaging 178km per stage! The majority will ride one or two stages of their choice – a true test of stamina, on average burning 7000 calories a day, with uphill stretches up to 30 km long over 6 mountains and 23 passes that most people ski down– an awe-inspiring opportunity to experience the greatest sporting test in the world. To find out more visit www.tourdeforce.org.uk Please will you be a sponsor? Your generosity will not only spur on a rider to succeed at this challenge but also help a young person to achieve more in life.Thank you for your support.
