The William Wates Memorial Tru ...
Hello and Welcome from Robert Monteath-Wilson
Tour de Force 2012
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
In June/July 2012 I will be attempting to emulate some of my heroes by completing the entire 2012 Tour de France route one week ahead of the professional cycle racing event. This involves cycling an average of over 100 miles per day for three weeks, through France, including over the high mountain ranges of the Pyrenees and Alps.
This is obviously an eagerly anticipated personal challenge in my 50th year (maybe it's a mid-life crisis thing!) and to enjoy cycling some of those wonderful roads in France is a dream for any keen cyclist.
However, more importantly, this event provides a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for a fantastic charity whose goals I wholeheartedly support and to which I am delighted have the chance to contribute to.
The William Wates Memorial Fund gives to other organisations, often voluntary, which actively support the most disadvantaged young people, helping them fulfil their potential through the mediums of sports, arts and education. (see more below).
Please join me in giving a financial helping hand to those people and organisations, supported by the William Wates Memorial Fund, whose sole purpose is to help and guide disadvantaged young people at a critical stage in their lives which could help shape their entire future, and by extension the future well-being of our society.
See some of the organisations recently supported by WWMT here... and see the images below.
Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. If you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent you will boost your donation.
Thank you for your support and best wishes, Robert.

The London Riots 2011
We were all shocked and saddened by the riots that occurred in London earlier this year. These were primarily caused by a growing disaffection and disconnection with community and society by many young people from so-called disadvantaged backgrounds.
This is your chance to do something practical to address the causes of these issues, supporting people and voluntary organisations who give up their time and energy to guide and encourage young people to take a constructive path in their lives and fulfil their potential enabling them to make a positive contribution to our society.
Please give generously! Thank you, Robert.
About The William Wates Memorial Trust (Tour de Force 2012)
The William Wates Memorial Trust is a grants giving registered charity set up in 1998 with a mission to help disadvantaged young people fulfil their potential, and stay away from a life of crime, using the mediums of sports, arts and education. The Trust exists to celebrate the life of William Wates (1977- 1996) who was tragically killed when travelling in South America. His family set up the trust to shine some light into the lives of young people who have not had the advantages that Will enjoyed and we feel the aims of the trust reflect where his interests would have been if he was alive today. Since 1998 the Trust has donated just over £1M and helped over 8,000 disadvantaged young people fulfil their potential. Please have a look at our website www.wwmt.org to find out more about the amazing charities that we have supported.
On Saturday 23rd June, 2012 the Tour de Force riders will leave Liege in Belgium and cycle the 2012 route of The Tour de France, staying a week ahead of the professionals, and finishing in Paris on the 15th July nearly 3,500km later. This will be an epic challenge for everyone who takes part, whether they are cycling one, two or twenty stages. All the cyclists will go above and beyond their personal limits, requiring herculean levels of stamina, mental strength and humour. They will battle through adversity in the form of sleep deprivation, awful weather, aching bodies and km after km of challenging terrain! Please support our cyclists generously. They will earn every penny of your sponsorship!
