COBRA SPONSORED SOURCE 2 SEA CHALLENGE

Hello and Welcome from COBRA SPONSORED SOURCE 2 SEA CHALLENGE

****A WRITE-UP OF THE ADVENTURE CAN BE FOUND ON THE COBRA WEBSITE***

After a rigorous selection process the final cut for the long awaited Source to Sea Adventure Extrordinare has been made! Eight good men and true will complete this epic journey on the 30th July 2011.

This has never before been completed within a single day (not that we're aware of) and will see a group of Coleraine Old Boys fight against the elements and the physical turmoil of covering the 100+ mile length of the River Bann in a single day by man power alone!

The adventure shall unfold thus:

RUN - At sunrise or soon after, we will be surfacing, packing up the tents and donning our running shoes for a lively 4 mile run from Spelga damn into Hilltown just on the edge of the Mourne mountains. We will be following the stream that will become the River Bann with fantastic views along the route.

CYCLE - In Hilltown we'll be jumping onto the road bikes for the longest stage of the journey cycling from the fringe of the Mournes all the way to the South side of Lough Neigh, around the west side of the Lough, through Toome and northwards to Carnroe lock gates a few kilometres south of Drumaheglis Marina. This leg should be approximately 85-90 miles depending on the route.

ROW - At Carnroe we will meet our river vessel for the final stage of our journey as we swap bike for boat. Launching at the pontoon at Carnroe lock gates we will row in an eight man rowing boat the 24km (15miles) to the Barmouth where the River Bann finishes it's journey, as will we.

As old boys of CAIBC we appreciate what the boat club gave to us, and we want to give something back to it. Through this crazy challenge we are raising money towards a new eight man rowing boat for the club. This is part of a wider fundraising push by the organisation, details of which can be found at www.bmycharity.com/COBRA2011

Donating through this page in the column on the left is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent you will boost your donation. Please donate generously to reward our courage/stupidity! You can also join our facebook page where we will keep you up to date with our training and planning.

Thank you for your support,

Jason, Philip, Chris, Richard, Steven, Alex, Jamie and Robert

COBRA Rowing

About Coleraine Old Boys Rowing Association

For more than 80 years Coleraine Academical Institution has maintained a strong, proud, rowing tradition, producing excellent crews that have competed successfully throughout Great Britain and Ireland. From CAIBC crews, old boy oarsmen have gone on to excel further in club and national crew boats basing their success on the comprehensive and complete rowing platform that they obtained, thanks to their experiences at CAIBC

COBRA was created in 2000 by a small group of ex-CAI oarsmen, with the objectives of supporting CAIBC through fundraising and coaching, and developing a network of CAI old boys. In 2003 the company “COBRA Ltd” was established as a non-profit organisation with charitable status.
