Hello and Welcome from St Andrews University 20mile Sledge Pull
Scott Scholarships Sledge Pull
The University of St Andrews Expedition Society (ExpAnd) are taking part in a 2-day
charity sledge pull challenge across the 20 mile Lairig Ghru pass in the Cairngorms
as part of the events marking the centenary of the famous Terra Nova Expedition.
A team of 13 students, led by Edward Morgan (3rd year, Geography), will be cross
country skiing with a sledge in tow across the 20 mile route to re-enact the hardship
of Captain Scott.
The expedition will depart the Highland town of Inverey on the 2nd February 2012
and arrive in Aviemore on the 3rd.
ExpAnd are looking for sponsorship and donations, as they are raising money to
create a scholarship for a young person in Fife to take part in a prestigious British
Schools Exploring Society (BSES) Expedition and for the Educational Outreach
programme of the Scott Polar Research Institute.
The Sledge Pull challenge is part of a nationwide series of events organised by Inspire
Youth Development, a non–profit youth development charity aiming to create
inspirational opportunities for today’s young people.
Professor Lorna Milne, Proctor of the University, said “I wish all the luck to our
adventurous students raising money for a wonderful cause. I encourage the St
Andrews community to support this generous team”.

The Scott Centenary Sledge Pull is a series of celebratory events all over the UK to mark the Centenary of Scott’s famous expedition. It is the official youth and schools event of the Centenary.
These events are designed to raise funds for youth adventure and exploration, for the polar education work of the Scott Polar Research Institute in Cambridge and for other charities chosen by participating teams and individuals.
