Hello and Welcome from Strategic

Keep up to date with all the teams progress on the dedicated web site

www.strategiclions.com

Following the colossal success of winning the “8 man team” category in RAAM 2011, with a clear two hours and 55 minute lead. Strategic Lions are back on their saddles and training to defend their five days, nine hours and 14 minutes winning title for next year’s 2012 RAAM

Departing Saturday 16th June 2012, a team of 8, comprising of Andy Watson and Stewart Loben from Strategic Team Group, along with Damian Bourke from The Orthodontic Centre, teaming up with other elite cyclists as they Race Across America (RAAM) as the “Strategic Lions Cycling Team”

They will be supported by a team of 16, including Paul Danisz from Strategic and a number of ex-forces personnel, to make sure they have military precision and achieve the best time possible.

Team Battle Back, a team of 8 wounded UK Armed Forces personnel are also entering the 2012 race. Strategic Lions are honoured to have been asked to mentor and pass on their valuable knowledge and experience to these brave and courageous individuals as they prepare for this epic challenge.

RAAM is 30% longer than the Tour de France with a route stretching over 3000 miles. Starting in California and ending in Maryland, the riders will touch 14 states and climb over 100,000 feet. Teams typically cross the country in 6 to 9 days; averaging 350 to over 500 miles per day. The current team record stands at 5 days 9 hours and three minutes, which our team is hoping to beat. (only 11 minutes out last year!!! The team are determined and are certain they can learn from last year’s victory to smash the record in 2012) Teams have a relay format and race 24 hours a day - in RAAM, once the clock starts on the west coast, it doesn't stop until each racer reaches the finish line on the east coast.

About Help for Heroes

The charity Help for Heroes was launched in October 2007 in order to provide direct, practical support to those wounded, sick or injured in the line of duty since 9/11. All the funds raised to date are either allocated or spent on the direct, practical support of those wounded in the current conflicts. To date, H4H has funded a variety of projects including the £8m Rehabilitation Complex at Headley Court, a new £3.5m treatment centre for Combat Stress, adaptive adventure training through the Battle Back programme and the creation of a £6m Quick Reaction Fund to support individuals in need.
