Hello and Welcome from Robert Thein

22/03/2012
Post Adventure Update: I thought I should re-assure everyone that I've made it back in one piece!

It was an experience that one could never forget, and a very exhausting one at that! From eating Reindeer for dinner, having zero visibility in snow blizzards, running up hills in deep snow with heavy Arctic boots (some days being off the sled more than than being on it), fetching our water from drilling a hole into a frozen lake, balaclava freezing solid whilst eating lunch, every trip and every fall and getting back up, to shivering in a tent at 5am trying to keep warm, every bit made it.

The dogs were incredible as well. So much respect for them, especially my team who were so patient with me spending ages putting their harnesses on wrong.

To everyone that's donated and given support throughout all this, I honestly can't thank-you enough. It's amazing to see some of the generosity and support that people have given and towards the cause that is freeing Burma. It's very easy to forget about something when you don't hear much about it, but doing this has made it known that people still care. The fact is, is that Burma's history is happening now, and your pennies and pounds have contributed towards their future whether you know it or not. Burma Campaign are doing a great thing and have been for the last 20 years. Keep supporting their work and we will keep seeing progress.

Once again, thank-you thank-you thank-you!!!

Rob Thein

----------------------------------------------------

So I'm being thrown into the wild Arctic Circle for 7 days trekking through 200km of blizzards and temperatures as low as -30c with the help of some huskies. If I get frostbite or eaten by a polar bear, at least it will be for a good cause - Burma Campaign.

I would really appreciate a donation as much or as little as you'd like.

Aung San Suu Kyi has been released from 15 years of house arrest, but there are still over 2000 political prisoners being held captive because they want something we already have. A little bit from everyone will help a long way for their road to democracy and freedom.

Massive thanks,

Rob Thein

About Burma Campaign UK

Burma is ruled by one of the most brutal dictatorships in the world. It spends billions of dollars on the military while the population goes without access to proper healthcare, education and food. Fake elections held by the regime in November 2010 brought in a new military drafted constitution, which legalised dictatorship with a civilian front. A Parliament was created, but it is dominated by pro-military parties and the military have 25% of the seats. This means the military can veto any efforts in Parliament to try and make the constitution more democratic. While there have been some small reforms in Burma and there is potential for change, there hasn’t been real change yet. In fact, human rights abuses have increased. Almost 150,000 ethnic people were forced to flee their homes last year because of attacks on their villages, twice as many as in previous years.

Burma Campaign UK is part of a global movement working for the promotion of human rights, democracy and development in Burma. As part of a global campaign, we persuaded the United Nations Security Council to discuss Burma for the first time. As a result, the Security Council demanded the release of all political prisoners. We persuaded the British government to double aid to Burma and to fund cross-border aid in order to reach ethnic people that the regime doesn’t allow aid to be delivered to, which will save and improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. We have generated thousands of stories about Burma in the media, ensuring the world does not ignore the crisis in Burma.
